General Information

TROSA is a comprehensive, long-term, residential substance abuse recovery program located in Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1994, TROSA is now the largest state-licensed residential therapeutic community in North Carolina and is widely respected for its innovative entrepreneurial approach to the pervasive issue of substance abuse.

TROSA accepts substance abusers with one condition: they must have a strong desire to change their lives. The TROSA philosophy is based on principles of self-help and individual empowerment. Key elements of the program include vocational training, education, communication, peer counseling/mentoring, leadership training and aftercare.

TROSA's purpose is to help substance abusers overcome their addictions, so there are a myriad of support groups and structured activities required for residents. By the time they graduate from the program, residents have a personal savings account, a donated and refurbished car, transitional housing, and marketable job skills.

Our motto, "Each One, Teach One," makes learning leadership skills part of everyday life. Our President and staff teach leadership by sharing their own personal experiences with residents and by being hardworking role models. Residents provide peer counseling to one another and become examples of success when they graduate and transition into the larger community.
