Aftercare

We believe that people need support as they transition from a structured and supportive environment to the larger community after a treatment program. We don't just sober people up and then send them out the door; we assist residents during this time of transition by providing housing, transportation and support groups.

Housing

Once residents graduate, they can choose to remain connected to TROSA by living in TROSA-owned subsidized housing. These properties are typically two to three bedroom apartments with individual or shared rooms. In this way, graduates can save money and re-enter the community in a safe, supportive environment. Our housing programs house individuals with other clean and sober graduates. The housing is low-cost, furnished, and includes all utilities. When graduates move on to their own apartments, TROSA will even provide them with furnishings for their new home.

Transportation

An important element of our aftercare program is the transportation component whereby we either provide free transportation to and from work or allow graduates to purchase a vehicle from TROSA at an affordable price. Most cars are purchased for between $200 and $500. Have a car to donate? Donate a vehicle.

Graduates have the opportunity to purchase used vehicles donated to the TROSA program and repaired by residents in the automotive department. Graduates are only charged the price of the parts needed to repair the vehicle, and TROSA will not charge graduates for auto repair labor on the vehicle as long as they remain "in good standing". For individuals who are unable to obtain their drivers license, TROSA will provide transportation to and from work for up to one year after graduation.

Support Groups

Graduates are encouraged to attend semi-monthly support groups that help make their transition successful and support their continued recovery. Regular attendance at group meetings or involvement in other TROSA activities is required for those who wish to benefit from the full range of aftercare services provided.

Scholars Program

In recent years, TROSA has added a Scholars Program for graduates of the 2-year program. Residents who have shown an interest in extending their time at TROSA to continue their education can apply to become a scholar and enroll in a university, a local college or a training/certificate program. We currently have residents attending University of North Carolina, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, Wake Tech Community College and Durham Tech Community College.

Peer Support Specialists

Residents who have shown an interest in extending their time at TROSA and becoming a member of our staff can apply to become a peer support specialist. This is a one year apprenticeship program. Peer support specialists are a key part of the community at TROSA and help serve as positive examples to current residents and continue their treatment while participating actively in our Aftercare program.
